How Small Moments Can Reconnect You to What Matters Most
Sometimes the smallest moments are the ones that bring you back to yourself.
Not the big breakthrough.
Not the perfectly timed plan.
Sometimes it’s a breath.
A pause.
A nature break.
A tiny creature lands beside you when your heart needs a little waking up.
That’s what happened to me recently when I had a conversation with a fly.
But before I tell you about that, you need to know something about me…
I’ve felt deeply connected to animals and have spoken to them my entire life. Talking to animals was just something I did. I just felt like they understood me in some way that humans didn’t.
Some people thought I was a little strange.
And for years, I wondered if maybe they were right.
But the more I’ve trusted what I feel, the more I’ve come to believe that communication, connection, and understanding are happening all around us.
This particular day started with two young male elk hanging out near our horses.
I had seen them before while hiking higher up in the mountains above us. They felt young. A little scared.
Like they were seeking comfort and safety.
So I told them out loud, “You guys can go hang out with our horses. I’m sure they’d love your company.”
And then the next day, they were there.
Right there with the horses while I was feeding, watering, and cleaning up manure. They stayed close enough that I could really take them in. And they kept calling out, speaking to our boys and getting their reaction. It felt like such a beautiful reminder that connection doesn’t have to be forced.
Sometimes it simply arrives when the space feels safe.
Later that day, I saw my first bull snake of the season and had a nice little chat with him, too. I thanked him for being around and helping keep the balance, since bull snakes can help with rodents and rattlesnakes.

But the moment that stayed with me most was the fly.
I was inside mixing tracks for the DailySpark, having a lower-energy day.
My body was speaking to me.
My mind was busy with what needed to be done, what needed to be figured out, and what was next.
And then this fly landed right next to me.
I had noticed it trapped in the house the night before, and when it landed near me, I got this feeling that it was trying to tell me something.
Now, my first instinct was not exactly enlightened.
My first thought was, “I could just smash it.”
But then I remembered a conversation MaryBeth and I had recently about animal communication and how insects also have their own level of consciousness.
So I paused.
And that pause mattered.
Because the smallest moments can reconnect you to what matters most, but only if you’re present enough to notice them.
I tried to help the fly by picking it up, but I heard my intuition say, “You could hurt it that way.”
So instead, I spoke to it.
I said, “Hey, I’m going to put my finger here. If you climb on my finger and hang on, I’ll take you to the door and let you out.”
And do you know what happened?
The fly climbed onto my finger.
I walked to the door.
I opened it.
And it flew out.
That was it.
That tiny moment helped reawaken my heart, my soul, and my spirit.
It reminded me that when your energy feels low, your mind is noisy, your body is tired, and life feels like one long list of things to figure out, you don’t always need a massive breakthrough.
Sometimes you need one small moment of connection.
One small moment of presence.
One small moment where you listen to the quiet voice inside you instead of dismissing it.
Because you never really know what can bring you back.
Maybe it’s a plant, a breeze, a sunset, a bird outside your window, a prayer, or a fly asking to be let out.
The point is not the size of the moment.
The point is whether you’re available to receive it.
That day reminded me of the power in activating my values of: Unity with Nature, Connection, and Spirituality.
Not as ideas.
As lived experiences.
Because what’s the point of being here if you can’t enjoy the small moments?
What’s the point of building the life you say you want if you rush past the tiny invitations that make you feel alive inside it?
So let this be your reminder today:
The smallest moments can reconnect you to what matters most.
But you have to slow down enough to notice them.
And sometimes, the easiest way to begin is with your breath.
That’s why I want to invite you to listen to Breath Awareness Meditation for Presence, Gratitude, and Calm inside DailySpark.
