What Are You Still Carrying?

What are you still carrying? Written by James Hyland

How to Release Stress and Tension From Your Body With Tai Chi

You can carry something for so long that you stop noticing how heavy it has become.

The stress starts to feel normal, the tension becomes part of your posture, and the thoughts running through your mind become the background noise of your day.

Maybe it is pressure from work, frustration from a conversation, fear about what comes next, or responsibility that never seems to leave your shoulders. You keep moving because that is what you know how to do, but your body is still holding everything you have not had the time or space to release.

That weight can show up in ways you do not immediately connect to emotion. Your shoulders feel tight, your jaw stays clenched, your breathing becomes shallow, or your body feels restless even when you are sitting still.

You may tell yourself to relax, stop thinking about it, or move on. But your body does not always respond to instructions from your mind.

Sometimes it needs movement.

There are moments when you do not need to understand every detail of what you are feeling. You do not need to trace it back to the exact moment it began or find the perfect words to describe it.

You simply need to give your body a way to let some of it go.

Invest a moment to think about what you are carrying right now.

  • What has been taking up more space inside you than you want it to?
  • What would feel different if you did not have to carry all of it into the rest of your day?

Releasing something does not mean pretending it never happened. It does not mean ignoring your responsibilities, dismissing your emotions, or forcing yourself to feel positive before you are ready.

It means allowing yourself to loosen your grip.

When you create even a little space inside yourself, another question becomes possible:

  • What do you want to feel instead?

Maybe you want to feel calmer, lighter, more confident, more grounded, or more hopeful. Maybe you want to feel like yourself again instead of feeling consumed by everything happening around you.

Most of us spend far more time thinking about what we want to stop feeling than what we want to welcome in. We know we want less stress, less fear, and less pressure, but we rarely pause long enough to choose what we want to replace them with.

That choice matters.

You can release tension and make room for ease. You can loosen your hold on fear and create space for trust. You can let go of some of the pressure and invite in a sense of support.

The guided Tai Chi practice I created is designed to help you do exactly that. Through gentle movement, breath, and the calming presence of the horses and nature, you will be guided to identify what you are ready to release, move it through your body, and intentionally bring in more of what you want to feel.

You do not need to be experienced in Tai Chi, flexible, or good at following movement. You only need to arrive as you are and give yourself permission to put something down.

Watch the guided practice with me and let your body release what feels heavy so you can make space for what you want to carry forward.

P.S.

You do not have to let go of everything today. Releasing even a small amount can create more space than you realize.
