How to Stop Feeling Drained: Live Your Core Values Through Micro Habits
I’m currently drowning. Just barely keeping my head above water. I have no time or energy to do what I need to do to feel better. But I know something has got to give.
?Sound familiar?
That’s what 90% of my coaching clients come to me experiencing. They are high achievers who have seemingly mastered the art of multitasking. On the outside, they look like superstars, but on the inside, they feel like they’re dying. And they’re waving the white flag.

Here’s the deal: You’re not drained because you’re doing too much. It’s because you’re doing too little of what ignites your values.
My Own Battle with Values Misalignment
A while back, I was all-in on the value of Achievement. I was chasing titles, money, accolades, and the approval of others, thinking that’s what success looked like. But deep down, there was this nagging voice telling me I needed to do more, be more, hustle harder. It was relentlessly cruel, and honestly? It was exhausting.
The kicker? That voice wasn’t even mine.

It was a mix of societal pressure and old messages from my abusive childhood, pushing me toward a version of achievement that didn’t align with my true self. When I finally realized I was chasing someone else’s definition of Achievement instead of my own, everything shifted.
Now, my definition of Achievement is rooted in Authenticity and Ease. It feels like me. Not some programming that was hammered into me, but never truly resonated with my soul.
And I want that kind of clarity and freedom for you, too. So you can feel the energy and aliveness that comes with truly living your values and not someone else’s.
So, how do you bridge the gap between your current habits and routines so your core values actually see the light of day—without the overwhelm?
The answer lies in micro habits: small, intentional actions that make your values feel real and achievable today.
Here are three micro habits to help you live your values now, plus a special invitation to go deeper.
Micro Habit #1: ⚖️ Listen for 2-Minutes to Align with Your Core Values
The first step to living your values is knowing which ones are truly yours. Take our free quiz to get started.
Then notice: are your aspirational values—like Courage or Impact—coming from your heart, or are they “shoulds” shaped by external expectations?
Try this micro habit:
- ? At the start of each day, listen to this 2-minute guided reflection: How will your actions align with your values today?
- ? Bookmark this practice for yourself so you can go back to it over and over again.
This quick check-in keeps your values in sync, ensuring your aspirations lift you up without burning you out.
Micro Habit #2: ?️♀️ Reflect for 2-Minutes to Clarify Your Values
Your aspirational values should enhance—not eclipse—your core values. If you’re chasing an aspirational value like Ambition but your core value is Balance, you need a way to keep them in harmony.
Try this micro habit:
- ✍️ Invest 2 minutes each morning journaling one sentence about how an aspirational value showed up (or could show up) in your day. For example, if you aspire to live the value of Courage, write: “Today, I’ll speak up in that meeting, even if my voice shakes.”
- Ask yourself: Does this value energize me or drain me? If it’s draining, it might be someone else’s expectation, not your own.
This tiny practice builds clarity over time, helping you discern what’s authentic and what’s not. It’s like a daily compass check to keep you aligned.
Micro Habit #3: ? Take One 5-Minute Action to Embody Your Value
Aspirational values can feel big and out of reach—like you need to overhaul your life to live them. But you don’t. You can start now with one small, intentional action.
Here’s how:
- ⏲️ Pick one aspirational value and commit to a 5-minute action each day that brings it to life. If your value is Connection, invest 5 minutes sending a thoughtful text to a friend or listening fully during a conversation. If it’s Creativity, doodle for 5 minutes or brainstorm one new idea.
- The key is consistency, not perfection. These micro actions stack up, turning your aspirational value into a lived reality.
By starting small, you bypass overwhelm and build momentum. It’s like planting a seed that grows into a habit you love.
My Gentle Nudge ?
Here’s the truth I’ve learned: Living your values doesn’t require grand gestures or blowing your current life up to start over. It’s about small, consistent steps that feel like you.
When you’re energized, your values are in action. When you’re drained, it’s a sign to realign.
Micro habits are the bridge between who you are and who you’re becoming. They make your values feel less like a distant dream and more like a natural part of your day.
