The Apple & The Tree: Aronya & Victor

by | Jun 17, 2017

In celebration of Father’s Day, SparkVision got to know some dynamic young professionals who work directly with their Dad and meet Aronya and Victor.

As the saying goes, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” and these stories highlight the unique and special experience that’s created when children collaborate alongside their parents. We hope you’ll enjoy a look inside their day-to-day experience as family and colleagues!

Aronya Waller loves how media can inspire change. Since beginning her career as a teen reporter, she has provided her multimedia expertise for many businesses. Fulfilling her own dreams, Aronya founded Charismatic Connections to inspire organizations.

Victor Waller is retired International Labor Union Representative who was employed by the Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO.  He was also a partner in Growth Management that provided support services for businesses, record labels, and performing artists.

Describe your business. Aronya: Charismatic Connections is a boutique firm with extensive experience in communications, content development, and community outreach. We develop and manage strategic communications plans for nonprofits, inspirational organizations, and small businesses. Charismatic Connections uses creativity to connect and inspire the community.

How did it start? Aronya: My business started before I realized I had a business. I developed writing and communication projects for family members, friends, and nonprofits that I volunteered for. It was something that I always enjoyed doing, but for one reason or the other, it never became a career. In November 2014, I was laid off my job for the second time. I decided I had enough experience to go out on my own, and I gave myself one year to see if this could become a long-term option. If it didn’t work out, then I would go find a 9 to 5.

What role does your dad play in your business?  Aronya: My dad is my business manager, mentor, and sounding board. He’s my sanity check.  He helps make sure that all my forms, contracts, and other types of paperwork are in order. My dad provides his analytical side so that I can focus on the creative.

How did you get involved with your daughter’s business? Victor: I was proud and inspired when Aronya and I commenced discussing the vision, purpose, and mission for her new business.  It was truly evident she had given practical and realistic thought concerning her target market and how she was going to supply the various services offered by the business.  Aronya asked me to provide input concerning various matters and desired my assistance in the development of proposals, brochures, and contracts.  This was during to my experience in providing these services to consumers I assisted in a small business company, Growth Management, operated by me, my wife (Elaine Waller) and partner (Albert Jones).

What did/do you see in your dad that you see in yourself now?
Aronya: Growing up, I had the opportunity to see my father run an artist management company. Although I know I was shielded from a lot, I was able to see him in the studio, on the road, and interacting with clients. When I was in high school, I thought one day I’ll be working alongside him doing the same thing.

Now, things have come full circle. Sometimes I laugh because I feel like my name should be Victoria Waller. I’m at live recordings, on the road, and interacting with my clients. My father taught me, both directly and indirectly, how to manage the crazy schedules, working with various personalities, and the need for self-care. Most importantly, however, he taught me how to enjoy each experience.

What qualities did you see in your child as a kid that serves her well now as an adult? Victor: During Aronya’s teenage years she demonstrated a focus and desire to achieve academic advancement with the primary goal to attend college and have a professional career.  She would often inquire about my activities in Growth Management and my occupation.  We would discuss work projects and she desired to know what was warranted to achieve specific objectives.  During my interaction with her, I realized that she was very goal driven and demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit and drive.

What’s the best part of working with your dad/daughter?
Aronya: The best part of working with my dad is that his experience is more valuable than any degree. I realize I have been receiving a lifelong education, and I don’t know if I would have my business if it wasn’t for him. Yes, I am the boss of my company, but I still need checks and balances. He will let me soar to highest heights, but I’m still his little girl. He will always make sure that I am covered. I don’t take that for granted. I’m so blessed to have this opportunity to work with my dad. I’m so blessed to have this opportunity to work with my dad.

Victor: As a parent, your most precious and cherished moments are when you and your child experience a real positive interaction when you both provide instruction and feedback.  I truly value her tenacity and focus when we work together on tasks and assignments that result in a quality product or service.

What do you want your legacy to be?

Aronya: I made a difference. I inspired change.

Victor: My legacy is to have a positive impact on family, relatives, and friends through providing guidance, Christian values, and mentorship.

Happy Father’s Day Victor! As the only father we interviewed who works for his daughter, we are particularly in awe of your special relationship. Looking forward to hearing about your continued success!
