The Apple & The Tree: Chris & Seth

by | Jun 17, 2017

In celebration of Father’s Day, SparkVision got to know some dynamic young professionals who work directly with their Dad and meet Seth & Chris.

As the saying goes, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” and these stories highlight the unique and special experience that’s created when children collaborate alongside their parents. We hope you’ll enjoy a look inside their day-to-day experience as family and colleagues!

Christopher Schafer is the drummer in the band To The Moon and a clothing designer. He learned how to design clothing while living in London. He returned home to start Christopher Schafer Clothier. Future plans are to expand to Los Angeles in the Spring of 2018.

Seth Schafer has been surrounded by the custom suit business since childhood, wearing his first custom suit at a young age as he accompanied his father to various events.  Joining his father’s business in 2013, Seth quickly made his own mark after helping the team to win RAW Awards Baltimore’s Best Fashion Designers in 2013, Seth was honored with Baltimore Business Journal’s “30 Under 30” award in 2015

Describe your family owned business: Chris:  Christopher Schafer Clothier is a custom clothing company based out of Baltimore. We make custom suits, shirts, tuxedos, trousers, and accessories. I founded the company in 2010.

How did you get involved in your father’s business? Seth: I was recruited!  I was working at a restaurant at the time and living in an apartment in Owings Mills.  He would consistently call me every couple of days at 8am and ask when am I going to start working with him.

What did you see in your child as a kid that serves them well now as an adult? Chris: Seth is very friendly and gets along well with people. He’s not afraid to meet new people or talk to older and more successful gents. This now serves him well because he can really mix it up with our clients that can be older and have big job titles. They actually see a lot of themselves in him and he makes friends with his clients all the time.

What qualities do you see in your dad that you now see in yourself? Seth: I’ve always noticed his drive. I first saw it when he was essentially a full-time musician. Now I see it in the work that we do together. I also know that he a generous guy as well.

What’s the best part of working with your child/Dad?

Chris: The best part of working with my son is getting to really know him and help him grow. We spend tons of time together and he has really grown as a person over the last couple years. I’m really proud of him as a son and a business partner.

Seth: When I was a kid we didn’t have as much time together as we do now. It’s really cool to finally get to really know him. Also as much as I hate it, he really does push me to be better and I appreciate it.

What do you want your legacy to be?

Chris: I’m hoping to have all three of my sons working in our business. We are also working on growing our nonprofit venture, Sharp Dressed Man, to become an international organization. I want to be remembered as a hard-working, philanthropic, family oriented, beautiful suit making rockstar!

Seth: In April I will be moving to Santa Monica, California. I will be opening up Christopher Schafer Clothier. That is my goal to make my legacy and continue to grow on his.

Happy Father’s Day Chris! We wish you continued success in Baltimore and soon to be California. You two are quite the duo and have definitely already left your mark in a big way.
