My birthday gift to you. Written by James Hyland

Wisdom Gained From 42 Years

As I celebrated my 42nd birthday earlier this week, I found myself tapping into one of my core values: Reflection.

The kind where you look back and realize just how many versions of yourself you have lived through to become the person you are today.

And when I look back, I see a life that was once fueled almost entirely by competition, achievement, and pushing through.

A Division 1 lacrosse scholarship. Fourteen years in finance. Leading a sales team responsible for more than $10 billion in sales.

On paper, I knew how to win.

But behind the scenes, I also knew how to override stress, ignore physical symptoms, silence my emotions, and numb out just enough to keep going.

For a long time, I thought that was a strength.

Until my body finally got loud enough that I could not ignore it anymore.

In my mid-twenties, a back injury led me to a specialist who looked at my spine and compared it to that of a 70-year-old.

That moment stopped me.

It was the first time I remember asking myself, “What is my body trying to tell me?”

And that question became the beginning of everything.

Piece by piece, I started to see that life is full of highs and lows, wins and losses, breakdowns and breakthroughs. And what creates your reality is not just what happens to you, but how you respond, what you learn, and who you choose to become through it all.

Eventually, I walked away from the traditional grind and began building a quieter, more aligned life with MaryBeth and our horses in the mountains.

Today, through my energy work, coaching, and meditations, I help people realize you do not have to grind yourself down to live a meaningful life.

You do not have to sacrifice your body, energy, or soul to be successful.

You can release what no longer serves you, reconnect with who you truly are, and step into the life you were meant to live. (And I have a special offer at the end of this email to help you with that. ?)

So in honor of 42 years of living, learning, failing, healing, growing, and becoming, here are 42 pieces of wisdom I have gathered along the way in no particular order:

  1. The longest journey you’ll ever go on is from your head to your heart.
  2. Things are a lot scarier in your mind than in reality. You waste a lot of time and energy worrying about things that will never happen.
  3. You can only control your thoughts and how you choose to respond to circumstances.
  4. Anxiety is excitement without breath.
  5. You can overcome a lot more than you think.
  6. Be impeccable with your word. What you say, what you do, and how you think.
  7. Don’t take things personally. Look for your reflection in others.
  8. Don’t make assumptions. Be curious with your questions.
  9. Always do your best. Knowing your best will vary each day.
  10. Listen to and act on the messages you receive from your body and intuition. You will never regret a decision you make from the heart.
  11. How you think and how you feel create your reality. Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want.
  12. When you are feeling stuck, take a walk outside in nature.
  13. Your issues are stored in your tissues. Movement equals freedom. Free your body to free your mind.
  14. Your body speaks to you in whispers before it has to scream.
  15. A good night’s sleep is the best medicine.
  16. Take care of your body temple. Eat real food without chemicals. Stay hydrated with clean water.
  17. Start living your dream today. Don’t wait until “retirement”. Create the life you want with the person you love the most.
  18. Do what makes you feel good. Activate your values.
  19. Live your values, not someone else’s.
  20. People will project their fears on you. You get to choose what you do with them.
  21. What upsets you about people often reflects what upsets you about yourself and reveals opportunities for growth.
  22. You get to set your own expectations. Not anyone else. The only person whose opinion matters is your own.
  23. Surround yourself with people who share your values.
  24. To change the world, you have to change your own world first.
  25. You can’t change other people, but you can show them a new possibility.
  26. Don’t blame others or circumstances for your situation. Empower yourself to make a new choice.
  27. What you resist persists. Surrender.
  28. Be patient. Take things one step at a time without judgment of pace.
  29. Where your focus goes, energy flows.
  30. The only constant in the world is change.
  31. Life is hard. Choose your hard.
  32. Money doesn’t solve all your problems. Material things won’t make you happy in the long run.
  33. So much of what causes your stress is trapped emotions, limiting beliefs, and past fears that are stuck in your subconscious.
  34. Everything is energy.
  35. You are your own best doctor and guru.
  36. Protect your energy – don’t watch the news or commercials.
  37. You must unlearn old habits and ways of thinking (that don’t serve you) that were instilled in you by the fears of others.
  38. The universe will keep teaching you the same lesson until you get it.
  39. Choose love and abundance over fear and scarcity.
  40. Animals help connect you with your heart and soul.
  41. Horses are some of the best healers.
  42. Be here now. That is the only place you ever need to be.

And if there is one piece of wisdom from this list that has changed my life the most, it is this:

The longest journey you’ll ever go on is from your head to your heart.

Because when you have big emotional experiences, your subconscious builds a wall of trapped emotions around your heart to try to protect you, but it’s really blocking you from accessing your heart’s wisdom and keeps you feeling stuck.

One of the biggest ways I reconnected with my own heart was by clearing my HeartWall.

It helped me soften. Listen more deeply. Trust the messages I was receiving from my body and intuition. And remember that you will never regret a decision you make from the heart.

So as a special birthday offer, I’m offering a one-time HeartWall Clearing Energy Session with me for $42.

These sessions are normally an investment of $111, but through June 1, you can book one for only $42 in honor of my 42nd birthday.

If your heart has been feeling guarded, heavy, blocked, or hard to hear, this session is designed to support emotional release, energetic openness, and a deeper connection back to yourself.

P.S.

This one-time birthday offer is available until June 1. If the wisdom that resonated most with you was about moving from your head to your heart, this is your invitation to support that journey.
