How Releasing Trapped Emotions Transformed My Mental Health
Ever since I had a back injury in my 20s, where the doctors told me I had the spine of a 70-year-old, I needed multiple surgeries, pain medicine, and would likely end up in a wheelchair, I have been on a healing journey.
When I first started, I focused mainly on the physical side of healing. Being a former college athlete, that is what I knew. But I quickly learned that was only one piece of the puzzle.
I did all the right things regarding physical therapy, rehab, and being mindful of my body, and it was working.
However, I started to realize that when I was having mental or emotional stress, my back would start hurting, no matter how much physical progress I had made.
So my next step was focusing on my mental health. And, being that it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, I wanted to share that healing journey with you.
When I started doing my research, I discovered that it’s estimated that humans have 60,000 – 70,000 thoughts a day, and 70% – 80% of them are negative.
That is a lot of negative thoughts! And not something good for anyone on a healing journey.
So, I thought I just needed to eliminate my negative thoughts. Well, that is easier said than done.
I started going to therapy, attended lots of trainings and seminars, started practicing mindfulness, living my values, became a Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Mental Fitness Coach, and an apprentice of world-renowned healers like don Miguel Ruiz and don Jose Ruiz.
All of those things helped me immensely in my journey, and my mental health started to improve significantly, but I still had significant triggers.
I liken it to being like a computer, and everything runs smoothly, then a virus takes over. When that would happen to me, I would feel like a completely different person who was out of control. Time would pass, and I would come back to myself, but it was always such a draining experience.
I was:
- Judging myself and others for the littlest things.
- Making myself a victim when things didn’t go my way.
- Feeling like I had to control everything.
- Trying to be “perfect”.
- Wanting to please everyone.
- Avoiding things that made me feel uncomfortable.
Can you relate?
I didn’t want to keep living this way. Feeling those intense emotions of overwhelm, anxiety, and helplessness brings me down into a spiral of despair.
I was frustrated for being frustrated. I started to wonder if this was just a part of who I was, and if I would just have to live with it? Even if it meant suffering.
One of my favorite quotes from don Jose Ruiz is “that the only thing left to learn is to unlearn.” I knew I had to unlearn these patterns, but I didn’t know how.
I had been trying so many things, and while I was seeing some progress, it wasn’t where I wanted to be.
That all changed around this time last year when MaryBeth went on a month-long adventure to learn how to gentle wild mustangs. Horses that have never been touched by humans before.

When she asked the trainers if they recommended any books to prepare, they only said to read The Emotion Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson. Surprised, we expected a book about training mustangs, not energy healing.
But as I have learned, everything happens for a reason. The universe is presenting you with gifts all along your journey; you just need to look for them and open them up. And as the universe would have it, Dr. Nelson (the creator) was featured on one of our good friends’ podcasts the week before!
So, on our 5-day drive across the country last year, we listened to the podcast and the book. That is when everything changed in my healing journey.
What I learned is that our bodies store emotional trauma from certain events, and if those emotions aren’t released, you will be triggered and they will impact your health and well-being. And those emotions can get stored in different parts of your body.
I had heard someone say, “Your issues live in your tissues,” but I never truly understood that until now. I thought they were just talking about knots in the muscles, not the emotional trauma that created the knots in the first place.

The Emotion Code is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing technique developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson.
It helps identify and release trapped emotional energy, often from past experiences, that may still be affecting your present.
These trapped emotions can show up as:
🔥Strong reactions to small triggers
🧱Feeling stuck in certain areas of life
😩Energetic or emotional fatigue
🔁Self-sabotaging patterns
🎯Difficulty focusing or following through
💢Tension or discomfort in the body
It started to make so much sense to me. When I would feel emotions like fear or terror, my back would hurt. Even with the physical injury gone, there were still trapped emotions in my back that triggered physical pain.
So I started to practice on myself and I was blown away by the results. I was able to release so much tension in my body. When triggered, I’d do a session and the negative emotions would melt away. If my back or knee started hurting, I would do a session and start to feel relief. If someone made me upset, I would release that shortly after instead of carrying it with me all day.
I was so excited by the results that I started doing this work on family and friends (both human and animal) and started seeing amazing changes right away.

And one of the best things about the Emotion Code is that it can be done remotely.
This was so helpful when MaryBeth was away on a trip and was struggling through a trigger. When I can’t help her in person, I feel hopeless. With the Emotion Code, I helped her from across the country. Through this energy work, I was able to release her trapped emotions, and she felt relief shortly after.
She said to me, “If we started this sooner, it would have cut my healing journey in half! Old trauma patterns aren’t weighing me down like they used to. This feels like a painless shortcut to massive healing!”
That is one of the beauties of the system. It can be done anywhere, anytime, and the person receiving it doesn’t have to “do anything” other than be open to receive the energy healing. I take care of the rest.
So here are my 3 invitations to support your healing journey – this month and beyond:
- Listen to the Youest You podcast interview. THIS is the SECRET CODE To FULLY HEAL Yourself NOW! Learn HOW! | Dr. Bradley Nelson
- Read The Emotion Code Book. You can get it from most libraries, including audio! And hear the science, framework, case studies and technique that you can literally try out yourself immediately.
- Schedule a session with me to experience it first-hand. I am now an official Certified Emotion Code Practitioner and have done over 350 energy healing sessions with humans and animals.
I’ve been offering it to our friends, family, and our Community of Alignment, and now my heart’s desire is to offer the power of The Emotion Code to you.
So, if you feel like you have some trapped emotions that are holding you back from being the person you want to be, or you have an animal that doesn’t quite seem like themselves.
I have a special offer for you.
Right now, I am offering one Emotion Code session for $49, a 50% discount off the regular price for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Whether or not you choose to invest in a session together, I wanted to share this tool with you as something that’s massively changed our lives since using it. Start with the podcast if any part of you is curious to go deeper. At the very least, you’ll have a fascinating (new) perspective on how energy, emotions, and physical well-being are all connected.
The Emotion Code is a powerful tool to support your growth, restore balance, and create more space for the life you want to live.
If that possibility speaks to you, I’d be honored to support you on your healing journey.
