Energy Healing for Horses: How Wild Mustangs Changed My Life
There was a time when the idea of me standing in a pasture doing energy work with horses would have seemed completely insane. I didn’t even know what energy work was, let alone choose to do it with 1,000+ pound animals as my clients.
I was a finance guy. Analytical, rational, competitive. I was a Division 1 athlete, climbed the corporate ladder, sold billions of dollars, won awards, and eventually earned more than anyone in my position…in the world.
Today, I live in the mountains, invest much of my time with horses, and help people and animals release emotions, beliefs, and patterns that may be keeping them stuck.

So how the hell did that happen? 🤣
It started with a back injury.
In my twenties, I was told I had spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease. It was so bad that my doctor said my X-rays looked like someone in their 70s with the diagnosis.
Doctors prescribed pain medication, surgeries, and the real possibility of life in a wheelchair.
I had watched my grandmother slowly deteriorate through years of health problems, and I knew I didn’t want that path for myself. So I started searching for other, more natural possibilities.
I changed how I ate and moved. I learned to meditate, explored different healing modalities, and started paying attention to the connection between stress, emotions, and my body.
And it worked.

When I eventually went back to the doctor, they were shocked by how much my spine had healed. So much so that the doctor was sure he’d misread the initial X-rays because he’d never seen someone heal as quickly and naturally as I did.
But there was one thing I couldn’t explain.
Whenever I went through periods of intense stress or emotion, my back would start hurting again.💥
So my analytical mind wanted to know…if the physical injury had healed, why was my body still reacting?
That question stayed with me.

Around the same time, I started being introduced to ideas about energy, spirituality, chakras, and emotions being held in the body.
And believe me, this was not my world.
I remember someone talking to me about chakras and thinking, What the hell is a chakra? And why should I care?
Meditation, nature, food, movement, and the mind-body connection made sense to me. But the energy stuff?
I wasn’t sold.
But I stayed curious.

And I started noticing that certain situations could trigger emotional reactions that didn’t match what was actually happening. I used to describe it like a computer virus taking over my system.
One minute I was myself. The next I could be angry, defensive, or frustrated and wondering, Where did that come from?
I was meditating, doing breathwork, going to therapy, and working on myself. It all helped tremendously, but certain triggers still seemed to live somewhere deeper than my rational mind could reach.
Outside of healing my spine… wild horses ultimately transformed my relationship with energy work.

MaryBeth enrolled in a month-long program to learn how to gentle wild mustangs. Before she went, she asked one of the trainers what she should read to prepare.
We expected a book about horses. They recommended The Emotion Code.
The author was a chiropractor, and what immediately resonated was the idea that emotional experiences can continue affecting your body long after the event itself.
He shared so many case studies of people coming in to get adjustments, feeling short-term relief and then the pain just traveling somewhere else in the body, with no real medical diagnosis.
That’s when he discovered trapped emotions were simply moving around and making new homes in the body, instead of being released and letting go of the physical pain they created.
I thought about my back. I thought about my triggers. I thought about that feeling of the computer virus taking over.
But reading about energy work and believing it are two very different things.
Everything changed when I watched it happen with wild horses. 👀

I joined MaryBeth for the final few days of the mustang program, where one of the trainers practiced this work.
These weren’t calm, domesticated horses who had spent their lives with people. These were wild mustangs who had been rounded up, placed in holding facilities, transported, and suddenly expected to interact with humans.
Some were extremely reactive. Some were running around trying to get away. Others were afraid to be approached, touched, or handled.
Then I watched the trainer do energy work with them. And immediately, I watched them change.
A horse who had been highly reactive would soften, almost instantly.
A horse who had been running around would settle.
A horse who wouldn’t allow someone near them could suddenly choose to come closer.
It was wild. 🤯

The finance guy in my head was trying to figure out what the heck I was looking at.
I couldn’t explain it logically. And these horses certainly didn’t know what they were “supposed” to feel or how they were supposed to respond.
They just responded.
I couldn’t explain everything I was seeing.
But I couldn’t unsee it either.
That was the moment curiosity transformed into a calling.
I got certified in Emotion Code®, Body Code®, and Belief Code®, and since then I’ve worked with people, horses, and other animals through thousands of releases.
And my life looks almost nothing like the one I once thought I was building.
I went from finance to frontiersman.
Instead of spending my days talking about financial products to make people more money, I invest my days talking about and releasing trapped emotions to give people more peace.
Maybe you’re curious what it could do for you.
Maybe there’s a person who instantly gets under your skin, a fear you understand but can’t seem to shake, an emotion that keeps resurfacing, or a pattern you’ve worked on for years that still seems to be there.
You don’t have to understand energy work.
You don’t even have to believe in it
If you’re simply curious about what might shift, that’s enough to try for yourself!
Come experience it for yourself and see what happens.

P.S.
Here is what Sarah had to say about my work with her horse:
“My foal was sick and didn’t nurse for 24 hours. I was really concerned. James did a remote energy session on the way to the vet, which was an hour away and she started nursing in the trailer! I was so relieved.”
And what Tara had to say after her first session:
“I released more in a 30-minute session with James than I did in 8 years of therapy.”
